This competitive ELISA from Assay Genie is configured for quantitative measurement of 17-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 3 in human biospecimens, supporting studies of testosterone biosynthesis. HSD17B3 is the testicular enzyme that catalyzes conversion of androstenedione to testosterone, and altered expression has been investigated in disorders of sex development associated with 17-beta-HSD3 deficiency, androgen regulation in Leydig cells, and endocrine disruptor screening.

Run on serum or EDTA-plasma sample aliquots, the assay produces a colorimetric signal read on a conventional microplate reader. Each kit contains reagents sufficient for 96 individual determinations across the coated plate; results are interpreted against a standard curve generated from calibrators supplied with the kit. The competitive binding format measures analyte by displacement rather than by paired-antibody capture, which is useful for a small enzyme target where two matched antibodies may be difficult to generate.

Typical laboratory applications include reproductive endocrinology research, studies of male gonadal function, characterization of androgen biosynthesis under pharmacological or environmental challenge, and screening programmes examining testicular steroidogenesis. Reagents should be stored per the product insert and brought to working temperature before use. The kit is intended for research use only and is not for diagnostic or clinical decision-making.
