The Human Hemopexin PharmaGenie ELISA Kit from Assay Genie quantitatively measures hemopexin (HPX), a 60 kDa plasma glycoprotein that binds free heme with the highest affinity of any known protein. In circulation, hemopexin captures heme released from damaged erythrocytes and delivers it to hepatocytes for catabolism, preventing oxidative damage and iron loss. As a positive acute-phase reactant in humans, circulating hemopexin concentrations are clinically relevant in studies of hemolytic anemias, sickle cell disease, sepsis, liver dysfunction, and neuromuscular disorders such as multiple sclerosis and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

This assay uses a human-specific capture antibody pre-coated onto a strip plate, with biotinylated detection antibody and streptavidin-HRP conjugate for signal generation. The microplate format is appropriate for plasma-derived specimens, serum samples, and cell culture supernatant, supporting standard laboratory workflows. Each kit contains a complete set of reagents and standards for quantitative measurement, with intra-assay and inter-assay precision below 10% CV. The streptavidin-HRP conjugate should be stored refrigerated and protected from light to preserve activity. Researchers studying iron homeostasis, heme toxicity, and inflammatory biomarkers can use this kit alongside haptoglobin assays to evaluate heme-scavenging pathways in clinical and pre-clinical samples.
