Description

A sandwich ELISA kit from Assay Genie for quantitative measurement of Human Heme oxygenase 1 (HMOX1), also referenced by the synonyms HO-1, HO, and HO1. The assay is reactive with human samples and has been validated for serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates, and other biological fluids. Specificity covers natural and recombinant human Heme oxygenase 1.

Manufacturer performance data list a detection range of 15.6-1000pg/mL and a sensitivity of 10pg/mL. Reported precision is 6.1% intra-assay CV and 9.6% inter-assay CV. Recovery averages 102% for serum (range 96-108%) and 104% for plasma (range 98-110%). Linearity across dilutions 1:2, 1:4, 1:8, and 1:16 is reported as follows: serum (N=5) 103-113%, 92-101%, 100-112%, 107-117%; EDTA plasma (N=5) 87-97%, 104-114%, 93-103%, 103-115%; heparin plasma (N=5) 112-122%, 80-92%, 96-106%, 110-119%. The associated UniProt entry is P09601, and the kit is grouped under the Neurosciences research area.

Heme oxygenase 1 is an inducible enzyme that cleaves the heme ring at the alpha methene bridge to form biliverdin, which is subsequently converted to bilirubin by biliverdin reductase. Under physiological conditions, its activity is highest in the spleen, where senescent erythrocytes are sequestered and destroyed. The enzyme shows cytoprotective effects, as excess free heme sensitizes cells to apoptosis. For research use only.
