HCAR2, also known as GPR109A or HM74A, is a G-protein coupled receptor that responds to niacin (vitamin B3), beta-hydroxybutyrate, and the short-chain fatty acid butyrate. It is expressed on adipocytes, macrophages, neutrophils, and intestinal epithelial cells, where it mediates the lipid-lowering effects of nicotinic acid and contributes to colonocyte energy metabolism and gut barrier function.
