GLYCTK catalyzes the conversion of D-glycerate to 3-phosphoglycerate, a reaction that connects serine catabolism with gluconeogenesis and one-carbon metabolism.

Altered GLYCTK function has been associated with D-glyceric aciduria, and the enzyme is studied in hepatic carbon flux, mitochondrial disorders, and metabolic biomarker discovery.
