Description

Designed for the precise measurement of Glycophorin A levels, this Sandwich ELISA kit from Assay Genie targets human Glycophorin-A (GYPA) and is intended for research use only. The assay is suitable for use with serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids, with reactivity specific to human samples.

Performance characteristics include a detection range of 0.78-50ng/mL, a sensitivity of 0.413ng/mL, an intra-assay CV of 6.6% and an inter-assay CV of 10.2%. Linearity has been validated in serum (N=5) at dilutions of 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16 (107-116%, 109-119%, 108-118% and 90-102% respectively), with comparable data for EDTA and heparin plasma matrices. Recovery ranges from 80-92% in serum (average 86%) and 82-94% in plasma (average 88%). Specificity covers natural and recombinant human Glycophorin-A.

Glycophorin A is the major intrinsic membrane protein of the erythrocyte, carrying the MN blood group receptors on its N-terminal glycosylated segment. It acts as a receptor for Plasmodium falciparum erythrocyte-binding antigen 175 (EBA-175), as well as for influenza virus and Hepatitis A virus, and is involved in SLC4A1 function and membrane localisation. Dysregulation of Glycophorin A has been linked to various hematological disorders, making it a valuable biomarker for research into these conditions.
