Quantitative measurement of human GSTM1 protein is enabled by an Assay Genie ELISA Kit designed for research use only in pharmacogenomic, toxicological, and molecular epidemiology studies. Glutathione S-Transferase Mu 1 (GSTM1) is a cytosolic Phase II detoxification enzyme that catalyzes the conjugation of reduced glutathione to electrophilic substrates, providing cellular protection against xenobiotic compounds, environmental toxins, and reactive oxygen species. The kit supports investigations into how GSTM1 polymorphism—most notably the widely studied homozygous deletion referred to as the GSTM1-null genotype—influences individual susceptibility to environmental carcinogens, drug metabolism variability, and disease risk profiles.

Each kit provides reagents sufficient for 96 individual determinations, accommodating medium-throughput screening of patient cohorts or experimental treatment groups. Accepted specimen types include human serum samples, plasma specimens, and tissue homogenate-derived fractions, enabling researchers to work with the variable sample matrices encountered in translational research studies. All reagents are supplied in single-use vials to preserve reagent stability across repeated experimental runs. The protocol is carried out entirely in vitro and is intended strictly for non-diagnostic research applications.

GSTM1 belongs to the mu class of the cytosolic glutathione S-transferase superfamily and is expressed across hepatic, renal, pulmonary, and extrahepatic tissues. Peer-reviewed literature has linked GSTM1 expression and genotype status to outcomes in bladder, lung, breast, and colorectal cancers, to asthma and atopic phenotypes, and to the biotransformation of chemotherapeutic agents such as platinum-based drugs and certain antibiotics. By delivering a quantitative readout of GSTM1 protein abundance, this Assay Genie kit enables laboratories to correlate enzyme levels with genotype data, clinical metadata, or controlled experimental exposures in their research workflows.
