Description

From Assay Genie, this sandwich ELISA kit is designed for the quantitative detection of human Glutathione peroxidase 2 (GPX2) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids, with reactivity confirmed for human samples. Detection is colorimetric and the assay shows specificity for natural and recombinant human GPX2. The product is supplied for research use only and falls within the metabolism research area.

Performance specifications reported include a detection range of 78-5000pg/mL, a sensitivity of 32pg/mL, an intra-assay CV of 4.3% and an inter-assay CV of 6.4%. Recovery has been evaluated in serum (average 80%, range 80-85%) and plasma (average 81%, range 80-87%), with linearity demonstrated across dilutions from 1:2 to 1:16 in serum, EDTA plasma and heparin plasma.

GPX2 (UniProt P18283), also known as gastrointestinal glutathione peroxidase, GPx-GI, GPRP-2, GPx-2, GSHPx-2 or GSHPX-GI, is a selenium-dependent enzyme of the glutathione peroxidase family. According to the included UniProt annotation, it could play a major role in protecting mammals from the toxicity of ingested organic hydroperoxides, with tert-butyl hydroperoxide, cumene hydroperoxide and linoleic acid hydroperoxide able to act as acceptors, but not phosphatidycholine hydroperoxide. The protein functions as a homotetramer, is localised mainly in the cytoplasm, has a reported molecular weight of 21,954 Da, and maps to chromosomal location 14q24.1. Dysregulation of GPX2 has been associated with various diseases including cancer, inflammatory disorders and neurodegenerative conditions, and it is highlighted as a potential biomarker for disease research and therapeutic development.
