Built for quantitative measurement of the human Glucose Transporter 1 membrane protein, this Assay Genie kit delivers a colorimetric readout on a standard microplate reader. GLUT1 (SLC2A1) mediates basal glucose uptake across the blood-brain barrier, erythrocyte membranes, and many peripheral tissues, so quantifying its abundance supports metabolic research, neurology investigations into transporter deficiency syndromes, and cancer biology studies of altered glucose metabolism.

Each kit contains reagents sufficient for 96 assays in a microplate-based workflow, calibrated for use with tissue homogenates and cell lysate preparations. The procedure is performed in vitro and accepts a small sample volume, accommodating workflows that draw from limited biopsy material or cultured cell monolayers. A colorimetric endpoint allows absorbance-based data collection without specialized instrumentation beyond a basic plate reader.

Specificity is targeted at the human GLUT1 sequence, and reactivity is restricted to human samples. Components are supplied for refrigerated storage to preserve binding activity; reconstituted reagents should be aliquoted and protected from repeated freeze-thaw cycles to maintain performance across multiple runs.

Typical applications include metabolic research on Warburg-type effects in tumor cells, neurology studies of GLUT1 deficiency, and cell biology workflows tracking transporter expression under varied culture or pharmacological conditions. The research-use-only kit pairs well with downstream Western blot confirmation, immunohistochemistry validation, and flow cytometry-based expression profiling.
