Quantitative colorimetric measurement of human growth/differentiation factor 8 (GDF-8, also known as myostatin) is delivered by this 96-assay ELISA Kit from Assay Genie, configured as a sandwich-based microplate assay.

Circulating myostatin concentrations are routinely interrogated in studies of skeletal muscle regulation, including sarcopenia, immobilisation-induced atrophy, cachexia, and inherited muscular dystrophies. Researchers also deploy the kit in exercise-physiology protocols, metabolic-syndrome cohorts, and ageing studies, where plasma or serum measurements are paired with functional endpoints such as grip strength and lean body mass. Parallel in vitro applications use cell-culture supernatant to track myokine release from differentiated myotubes and explanted skeletal muscle tissue.

Reagents are organised to generate a standard curve for absolute quantification, with the colorimetric endpoint read on a standard microplate instrument. Storage guidance specifies holding the kit at -20°C for up to one year from the date of shipment, with short-term storage permitted at 4°C for up to six months; repeated freeze-thaw cycles should be avoided, and -80°C is recommended for longer-term archives. The kit is intended for research use only and is not cleared as a clinical diagnostic device.
