Description

Manufactured by Assay Genie, this Sandwich ELISA kit allows the in vitro quantitative determination of human Growth Differentiation Factor 5 (GDF-5), also known as Bone Morphogenetic Protein 14 (BMP-14), in serum, plasma, cell culture supernatants and other biological fluids. The double-antibody sandwich format is suited to research into skeletal development, bone and joint formation, and conditions such as osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal diseases.

The kit has a stated sensitivity of 0.094ng/ml and an assay range of 0.156-10ng/ml. Recovery rates in spiked samples were 87-102% for serum (average 95%), 91-99% for EDTA plasma (average 95%) and 92-102% for UFH plasma (average 97%). Linearity across 1:2, 1:4 and 1:8 dilutions ranged from 82% to 104% across the matrices tested. Intra-assay CV is reported as <8% and inter-assay CV as <10%. Components should be stored at 4°C for 6 months (the lyophilized standard may also be stored at -20°C), and the kit is intended for research use only.

GDF-5 is a cytokine of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) family and the TGF-beta superfamily that signals through BMP receptors to regulate chondrocyte differentiation, limb morphogenesis and skeletal development. The protein is associated with conditions including acromesomelic chondrodysplasia (Grebe and Hunter-Thompson types), brachydactyly types A2 and C, symphalangism, multiple synostoses syndrome type 2, and osteoarthritis susceptibility type 5 (UniProt P43026).
