Description

An ELISA kit from Assay Genie is designed for the quantitative detection of human Gastric Inhibitory Polypeptide (GIP), an incretin hormone implicated in glucose homeostasis and insulin secretion. The assay is run as a competitive ELISA and is intended for research use only, supporting studies within the signal transduction research area.

Validated sample matrices are serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernatants and other biological fluids, with specificity for natural and recombinant human GIP. Reported performance characteristics include a detection range of 0.156–10 ng/mL, a sensitivity of 0.086 ng/mL, an intra-assay CV of 6.4% and an inter-assay CV of 11.6%. Recovery in serum averages 102% (range 96–108%) and in plasma averages 104% (range 98–110%). Linearity has been assessed for serum, EDTA plasma and heparin plasma across dilutions of 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16.

The kit provides a tool for investigating the physiological role of GIP as a potent stimulator of insulin secretion and a comparatively poor inhibitor of gastric acid secretion.
