The GAR1 nucleolar ribonucleoprotein is a core component of H/ACA small nucleolar ribonucleoprotein (snoRNP) complexes, where it participates in site-specific pseudouridylation of ribosomal RNA and the maturation of functional ribosomes. Aberrant GAR1 expression has been implicated in certain cancer studies and in telomere maintenance research, reflecting the related roles of H/ACA snoRNPs in stabilizing telomerase RNA.
