Description

From Assay Genie, this competitive ELISA kit enables quantitative measurement of human Galanin peptides (GAL) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids. Reported analytical performance includes a sensitivity of 3.1pg/mL, a detection range of 7.8-500pg/mL, an intra-assay CV of 4.8% and an inter-assay CV of 8.9%. The assay is reactive with human samples and is intended for research use only. Specificity is directed against natural and recombinant human Galanin peptides, and the target is also referenced by the synonyms GAL1, GALN, and GLNN.

Galanin is a small secreted neuropeptide that acts as an endocrine hormone of the central and peripheral nervous systems, binding and activating the G protein-coupled receptors GALR1, GALR2, and GALR3. It has been implicated in contraction of smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tract, in growth hormone and insulin release, and in adrenal secretion. Dysregulation of galanin signalling has been linked to disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, depression, and epilepsy, supporting its use as a biomarker in disease research. The associated UniProt entry is P22466 and the protein is reported with a molecular weight of 13,302 Da.

Validation data include recovery in serum (average 98%, range 92-104%) and plasma (average 100%, range 94-106%), as well as linearity across serial dilutions from 1:2 to 1:16 in serum, EDTA plasma, and heparin plasma.
