Galactosidase Alpha (GLa), also known as alpha-galactosidase A, is a lysosomal hydrolase encoded by the GLA gene on the X chromosome. Mutations in this enzyme cause deficient breakdown of glycosphingolipids, particularly globotriaosylceramide (Gb3), leading to the X-linked lysosomal storage disorder Fabry disease. This Assay Genie ELISA enables quantitative measurement of human GLa protein, with species-specific reactivity to human alpha-galactosidase A, and is used in clinical and translational studies investigating enzyme replacement therapy efficacy, genotype-phenotype correlations, and biomarker discovery in patient cohorts. The kit is supplied as a complete reagent set with a pre-coated microplate and should be refrigerated upon receipt to preserve antibody activity. All components are intended for research use only, supporting downstream applications in nephrology, cardiology, and neurology where Fabry-related complications such as renal failure, cardiomyopathy, and cerebrovascular events are actively studied.
