Manufactured by Assay Genie, this solid-phase sandwich ELISA enables quantitative measurement of human Fibroblast growth factor 5 (FGF5) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids. FGF5 (synonyms: Heparin-binding growth factor 5, Smag-82, HBGF-5, FGF-5) is a secreted member of the heparin-binding growth factor family that plays an important role in the regulation of cell proliferation and cell differentiation and is required for normal regulation of the hair growth cycle, functioning as an inhibitor of hair elongation by promoting progression from anagen into catagen. The assay is specific for natural and recombinant human FGF5 and is intended for research use only.

The kit reports a detection range of 78-5000pg/mL with a sensitivity of 50pg/mL. Intra-assay CV is 4.2% and inter-assay CV is 8.1%. Linearity in serum (n=5) is 88-99% at 1:2, 93-101% at 1:4, 80-92% at 1:8 and 81-90% at 1:16; in EDTA plasma (n=5) it is 83-91%, 105-115%, 96-105% and 89-99% across the same dilutions; in heparin plasma (n=5) it is 97-107%, 96-108%, 80-80% and 87-97%. Recovery averages 98% in serum (range 92-104%) and 100% in plasma (range 94-106%).

FGF5 is encoded on chromosome 4q21 (UniProt P12034; NCBI Gene ID 2250) with a molecular weight of 13,006 Da, and the protein interacts with FGFR1 and FGFR2, with affinity increased by heparan sulfate glycosaminoglycans that function as coreceptors.
