The Fragile Histidine Triad (FHIT) protein is an established tumor suppressor encoded at chromosome 3p14.2, a locus frequently disrupted by loss of heterozygosity and promoter hypermethylation in solid tumors. Reduced FHIT expression is a recurrent finding in lung, head-and-neck, breast, cervical, and gastrointestinal cancers, which is why circulating FHIT levels are tracked in cancer biomarker research. This Assay Genie ELISA kit provides a quantitative immunoassay format for measuring FHIT protein in human research samples, supporting laboratory studies of tumor suppressor status alongside DNA and RNA analyses.
FHIT belongs to the histidine triad superfamily of nucleoside-binding proteins and catalyzes hydrolysis of diadenosine polyphosphates, including Ap3A and Ap4A. The 96 Assays configuration uses a colorimetric absorbance readout on a standard microplate reader, and each kit ships with the immunoassay components required to perform quantitative detection on blood-derived specimens. Researchers commonly pair FHIT protein measurement with methylation-specific PCR or immunohistochemistry to characterize tumor suppressor silencing across patient cohorts.
