Ferroportin (SLC40A1), the only known transmembrane iron exporter in vertebrates, can be quantified in research samples using this colorimetric enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay from Assay Genie. The kit is validated for use with serum fractions, plasma specimens, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, and cell culture supernatant preparations, supporting studies of iron homeostasis relevant to hereditary hemochromatosis type 4, anemia of chronic inflammation, and related iron-loading disorders. Altered expression of ferroportin affects enterocytes, macrophages, and hepatocytes, so reproducible quantification is informative for research into systemic iron metabolism, hepatic iron handling, and inflammatory iron sequestration.

The 96-assay microplate-based kit ships with a pre-coated plate, enzyme-conjugated detection reagents, substrate solution, a serially diluted standard set for curve generation, and wash buffer suitable for routine plate processing. Working dilutions of standards and reconstituted components should be handled according to the package insert to preserve reagent integrity. Researchers are advised to aliquot and store working solutions at the temperature noted on the certificate of analysis, keep reagents protected from light, and limit repeated freeze-thaw cycles of the antibody components.

This in vitro research use only kit provides a tool for laboratories examining FPN regulation in cell models, primary tissue samples, and patient-derived specimens. The protocol is compatible with standard absorbance microplate readers, and sample ferroportin concentrations are interpolated from the supplied standard curve, supporting reproducible quantification across experimental batches.
