Description
From Assay Genie, this colorimetric Sandwich ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of Human Ferritin light chain (FTL) in human serum, plasma, and cell culture supernatants, as well as tissue homogenates and other biological fluids. The kit is intended for research use only.
The target, FTL (also called Ferritin L subunit), is a key iron-storage protein that stores iron in a soluble, non-toxic form and supports iron homeostasis. Functional ferritin assembles as an oligomer of 24 light and heavy subunits forming a roughly spherical shell about 12 nm in diameter that encloses an iron-storage cavity. Defects in FTL are associated with hereditary hyperferritinemia-cataract syndrome, neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation type 3 (NBIA3), and L-ferritin deficiency. Abnormal FTL levels have been linked to anemia, hemochromatosis, and inflammatory disorders. The associated research area is Neurosciences.
Quoted performance characteristics include a detection range of 31.2-2000 pg/mL and a sensitivity of 10 pg/mL. Intra-assay CV is 3.6% and inter-assay CV is 7.9%. The assay specifically recognises natural and recombinant human Ferritin light chain (UniProt P02792).
