Description

A sandwich ELISA kit from Assay Genie designed for the quantitative measurement of human intestinal fatty acid-binding protein (FABP2) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids. The assay uses a colorimetric detection method and is intended for research use only.

Performance characteristics stated by the manufacturer include a sensitivity of 14.2pg/mL and a detection range of 62.5-4000pg/mL. Precision is reported as an intra-assay CV of 4.9% and an inter-assay CV of 8.1%. Recovery averages 92% (range 86-98%) in serum and 94% (range 88-100%) in plasma. Linearity in serum (N=5) at dilutions of 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16 spans 102-112%, 111-119%, 95-104% and 100-108% respectively, with comparable ranges reported for EDTA and heparin plasma samples. The kit detects both natural and recombinant human FABP2 and is listed under cardiovascular research.

FABP2 is described as a cytoplasmic protein involved in the intracellular transport of long-chain fatty acids and their acyl-CoA esters, with probable involvement in triglyceride-rich lipoprotein synthesis and a proposed role in maintaining energy homeostasis by functioning as a lipid sensor. Dysregulation of FABP2 has been linked to metabolic disorders including obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Synonyms for the target include Fatty acid-binding protein 2, Intestinal-type fatty acid-binding protein, I-FABP and FABPI (UniProt P12104).
