The Assay Genie intestinal FABP2 quantitative immunoassay supports research into gut barrier integrity and enterocyte damage. Intestinal fatty acid binding protein is approximately 15 kDa cytosolic carrier expressed almost exclusively by mature small-intestinal enterocytes, and it leaks into circulation within minutes of mucosal injury, making it one of the earliest circulating indicators of intestinal epithelial compromise.

Researchers use this kit to quantify human FABP2 in serum or plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, and cell culture supernatants from intestinal epithelial model systems. Published applications include tracking mucosal damage in mesenteric ischemia and reperfusion injury, necrotizing enterocolitis cohorts, inflammatory bowel disease activity scoring, celiac disease monitoring, sepsis-related gut dysfunction, and exercise- or diet-induced changes in intestinal permeability.

The assay is supplied as a 96-assay microplate kit with pre-coated capture antibody, lyophilised recombinant human FABP2 standards, biotinylated detection reagent, streptavidin-HRP conjugate, wash buffer concentrate, chromogenic substrate solution, and stop reagent. Samples and standards are added to coated wells, and bound analyte is revealed with the chromogenic substrate for absorbance measurement on a standard plate reader.

Key features include reactivity against human FABP2, a strip-plate layout suited to small or large cohort runs, compatibility with standard absorbance readers, refrigerated storage between uses, and intended research use only. The kit is intended for laboratory research applications and is not cleared for diagnostic procedures.
