Quantitative measurement of EXOC1, one of the eight subunits of the conserved exocyst tethering complex, supports research on secretory vesicle docking and polarized exocytosis in human cellular systems. The exocyst directs post-Golgi secretory vesicles to defined sites on the plasma membrane, and EXOC1 contributes the subunit implicated in anchoring the holocomplex to the lipid bilayer through interactions with small GTPases.
