Electron Transfer Flavoprotein subunit alpha (ETFA) is the mitochondrial matrix flavoprotein that accepts electrons from at least nine acyl-CoA dehydrogenases during fatty acid and branched-chain amino acid catabolism, then donates them onward to the respiratory chain through ETF:ubiquinone oxidoreductase. The Assay Genie immunoassay delivers a quantitative absorbance-based method for measuring this protein in human clinical specimens, supplied in a microplate format with reagents for 96 determinations.
Defects in ETFA cause multiple acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency, also known as glutaric acidemia type II, a heterogeneous inherited metabolic disorder that can present with neonatal hypoketotic hypoglycemia, skeletal myopathy, cardiomyopathy, hepatic dysfunction, or encephalopathy. Research teams working on mitochondrial bioenergetics, neonatal screening workflows, or biomarker discovery in metabolic myopathies can integrate this ELISA into their experimental pipelines to support case-finding and mechanistic studies.
Each kit ships as a complete set of buffers, standards, and detection reagents intended for research use only in a laboratory setting.
