The erythroferrone (ERFE) protein, encoded by the FAM132B gene, is an erythroid-secreted hormone that regulates iron homeostasis by suppressing hepatic hepcidin expression. Released by erythroblasts during stress erythropoiesis, ERFE links red blood cell production to systemic iron availability and is implicated in iron-loading anemias such as beta-thalassemia, sickle cell disease, and congenital dyserythropoietic anemia. Elevated circulating ERFE concentrations have also been reported in chronic kidney disease and during treatment with erythropoiesis-stimulating agents.
The Assay Genie ERFE ELISA kit supports research into the hepcidin–erythropoietin axis, iron-regulatory biology, and disorders of ineffective erythropoiesis. Supplied as a complete kit, the assay uses a colorimetric readout on a microplate to quantify human ERFE in serum or plasma and in tissue homogenate research specimens. Unopened components should be stored refrigerated; reconstituted standards and other working reagents should be handled per the manufacturer's insert. For research use only.
