S100A12, also called EN-RAGE or Calgranulin C, is a calcium-binding protein of the S100 family that functions as an endogenous ligand for the Receptor for Advanced Glycation End Products (RAGE). Released by activated neutrophils, S100A12 acts as a pro-inflammatory alarmin and is studied as a circulating biomarker in chronic inflammatory disorders including rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, vasculitis, atherosclerosis, and type 2 diabetes.
