The Assay Genie NBC4 ELISA Kit provides a quantitative immunoassay for measuring the human electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter 4, encoded by the SLC4A5 gene. NBC4 functions as an integral membrane transporter that couples the movement of sodium and bicarbonate ions across the plasma membrane, contributing to transepithelial bicarbonate flux, intracellular pH regulation, and systemic acid-base balance in tissues such as the renal tubules, pancreatic ducts, and salivary glands.

Researchers investigating ion transport physiology, renal bicarbonate handling, pancreatic ductal secretion, or solute carrier family expression can apply the assay to characterise NBC4 protein levels in custom-prepared lysates and homogenates. Because the target is a multi-pass transmembrane glycoprotein, sample preparation typically involves membrane-enriched fractions for optimal signal recovery, and the kit may be used alongside complementary approaches such as western blot and immunohistochemistry for transporter profiling.

Each kit contains pre-coated microplate wells, lyophilised standards, detection antibody, dilution buffer, wash concentrate, substrate, and stop solution sufficient for the full plate. Reagents should be kept refrigerated between uses and equilibrated to room temperature before opening; the standard and detection antibody vials should be aliquoted after reconstitution to limit freeze-thaw cycles, and the chromogenic substrate should be protected from light. For research use only.
