The DNAAF1 protein, also referenced in literature as CILD13 or ODA7, is a cytoplasmic chaperone required for preassembly of outer and inner dynein arm complexes that power axonemal beating in motile cilia. Loss-of-function variants in this gene are a well-characterised cause of primary ciliary dyskinesia type 13, a motile ciliopathy associated with recurrent respiratory infections, bronchiectasis, and laterality defects such as situs inversus.
