Human Desmoglein-1 PharmaGenie ELISA Kit (SBRS0513)

Built as a quantitative immunoassay, the Assay Genie Desmoglein-1 ELISA Kit measures human desmoglein-1 (DSG1) in cell culture supernatants, plasma, and serum. Desmoglein-1 is a calcium-dependent transmembrane glycoprotein of the cadherin family and a core structural component of desmosomes, the intercellular junctions that anchor keratin intermediate filaments and provide mechanical strength to stratified epithelia such as the epidermis. In the skin, DSG1 is expressed most strongly by suprabasal keratinocytes, where it reinforces adhesion in the upper epidermal layers.

Reduction or functional disruption of DSG1 by autoantibodies is a hallmark of pemphigus foliaceus, an autoimmune blistering disease, and altered DSG1 expression has been described in studies of squamous epithelial tumors.
