Human Desmin (DES) ELISA Kit

A sandwich ELISA from Assay Genie for the quantitative measurement of human desmin. The kit is intended for research use only and is reactive with human samples, including serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernatants and other biological fluids. It is designed to detect natural and recombinant human desmin (S1, S2).

Performance specifications quoted from the manufacturer include a detection range of 78-5000pg/mL and a sensitivity of 39.1pg/mL (S1, S2). Reported precision values are an intra-assay CV of 3.5% and an inter-assay CV of 6.1% (S1, S2). Linearity has been evaluated across dilutions of 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16 for serum, EDTA plasma and heparin plasma (S1, S2). Recovery in serum averages 80% (range 80-85%) and in plasma averages 81% (range 80-87%) (S1, S2).

Desmin is a class-III intermediate filament found in muscle cells, forming a fibrous network that connects myofibrils to each other and to the plasma membrane from the periphery of the Z-line structures (S1, S2). Abnormal levels have been linked to muscle disorders including desmin-related myopathy, making the kit useful as a biomarker research tool (S1). Detection is performed colorimetrically by reading absorbance at 450 nm on a microplate reader (S1, S2).
