DMBT1 is a multifunctional protein involved in mucosal immunity, cellular immune defence, and epithelial differentiation; it has been proposed as a candidate tumour suppressor gene, with loss or reduction of expression reported in brain, oesophageal, gastric, lung and colorectal carcinomas.

According to manufacturer data, the assay has a detection range of 78-5000pg/mL and a sensitivity of 39pg/mL. Reported CV values are 6.9% (intra) and 9.4% (inter). Specificity is for natural and recombinant human DMBT1, with linearity and recovery data provided for serum, EDTA plasma and heparin plasma samples.
