Human Defensin Beta 126 (DEFb126) ELISA Kit

The Assay Genie DEFb126 immunoassay enables precise quantification of beta-defensin 126, an antimicrobial peptide best characterized in the male reproductive tract. DEFB126 is secreted by the epididymal epithelium, coats the surface of maturing spermatozoa, and plays a documented role in sperm capacitation, membrane remodeling, and penetration of the zona pellucida. Studies using this kit have examined peptide abundance in relation to idiopathic male infertility, defective sperm motility, and reproductive-tract infections.

Outside of fertility research, DEFb126 is studied in mucosal immunity for its broad-spectrum activity against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria as well as fungi, including uropathogenic E. coli strains. The kit uses a pre-coated microplate format with reagents sufficient for the full plate, includes a set of recombinant standards, and is intended for research use only. Reagents are supplied refrigerated and should be stored at 4°C short term; aliquot and freeze the standard at -20°C to limit freeze-thaw loss of activity.
