Human Cytochrome P450 11B1 (CYP11B1) ELISA Kit

This steroidogenic enzyme is encoded by the CYP11B1 gene and localizes to the inner mitochondrial membrane of zona fasciculata cells in the adrenal cortex, where it catalyzes the 11β-hydroxylation step that converts 11-deoxycortisol to cortisol and 11-deoxycorticosterone to corticosterone, completing the glucocorticoid biosynthetic pathway. Quantitative measurement of CYP11B1 protein in human specimens is relevant to research on congenital adrenal hyperplasia arising from 11β-hydroxylase deficiency, disorders of cortisol production, and comparative studies between CYP11B1 and the homologous aldosterone synthase CYP11B2 that defines the zona glomerulosa. Loss-of-function mutations in CYP11B1 are the molecular basis of the simple virilizing and salt-wasting forms of CAH, and altered expression has been examined in adrenocortical tumors and in primary aldosteronism workups that distinguish bilateral hyperplasia from aldosterone-producing adenoma. Specimen types validated for the Assay Genie kit include serum samples, plasma samples, tissue homogenates, and related human-derived preparations.
