Human Cysteine Conjugate Beta Lyase (CCBL1), also called kynurenine aminotransferase 1 (KAT1) or glutamine transaminase K, is a pyridoxal-5'-phosphate-dependent enzyme that processes cysteine S-conjugates into reactive thiols and operates in the kynurenine pathway of tryptophan catabolism. This Assay Genie quantitative ELISA enables researchers to measure cytoplasmic CCBL1 protein levels in tissue homogenates and cell lysates using pre-coated antibody-capture plates. The kit is commonly used in toxicology studies of halogenated alkenes, investigations of hepatic and renal xenobiotic metabolism, kynurenine-pathway neurotransmitter biosynthesis, and oxidative stress research. Reagents should be stored at 4 °C and the microplate strips protected from moisture. The microplate format supports human-specific detection of endogenous CCBL1 with minimal cross-reactivity to related aminotransferases, making it a useful tool for translational metabolism and nephrotoxicology research.
