Cystatin SA (also called CST2) is a secreted cysteine protease inhibitor belonging to the type 2 cystatin family. This quantitative immunoassay from Assay Genie enables researchers to measure human Cystatin SA concentrations in a range of sample matrices including cell culture supernatants, plasma fractions, and serum specimens, with the microplate delivering 96 assays per kit.

Cystatin 2 is expressed in salivary glands, tear fluid, and various epithelial tissues, where it regulates endogenous and pathogen-derived cysteine cathepsin activity. Investigators use Cystatin SA quantification in studies of salivary gland dysfunction, mucosal immunity, inflammatory disorders, and head and neck malignancies where altered cystatin expression has been reported.
