Description

Manufactured by Assay Genie, this colorimetric Sandwich ELISA enables quantitative measurement of human Cystathionine beta-synthase (CBS) in biological samples. The assay has been validated for use with serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids.

Also known as Beta-thionase or Serine sulfhydrase, CBS is a pyridoxal phosphate-dependent enzyme that contains heme and functions as a homotetramer. It catalyses the first step of the transsulfuration pathway, in which the hydroxyl group of L-serine is displaced by L-homocysteine in a beta-replacement reaction to form L-cystathionine, the precursor of L-cysteine. This route also contributes to the production of hydrogen sulfide, a gasotransmitter with signalling and cytoprotective effects on neurons. Defects in CBS cause cystathionine beta-synthase deficiency (CBSD), an enzymatic deficiency resulting in altered sulfur metabolism and homocystinuria, making the protein a biomarker of interest in cardiovascular and neurodegenerative research. The kit is for research use only.

According to the manufacturer, the detection range is 1.56-100ng/mL with a sensitivity of 0.79ng/mL. Reported precision is 5.2% intra-assay CV and 7.6% inter-assay CV. Linearity has been evaluated across serial dilutions of 1:2 to 1:16 in serum (82-94% to 107-117%), EDTA plasma (98-108% to 91-101%) and heparin plasma (80-89% to 110-120%). Recovery is 90% (84-96%) for serum and 92% (86-98%) for plasma. The kit specifically detects natural and recombinant human CBS. UniProt ID: P35520. Subcellular localisation: cytoplasm and nucleus.
