CYFIP1 sits at the heart of the WAVE regulatory complex, where it controls Arp2/3-mediated actin branching at synaptic terminals. Because CYFIP1 binds the fragile X mental retardation protein (FMRP) directly, the kit is widely used in neuroscience studies of Fragile X syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, the 15q11.2 region implicated in schizophrenia and epilepsy, and broader questions of synaptic plasticity, dendritic spine remodeling, and neuronal migration.
