Chymotrypsinogen B1 is a pancreatic serine protease zymogen secreted by acinar cells and activated in the duodenum, where it cleaves peptide bonds adjacent to aromatic residues during intestinal protein digestion. Quantifying circulating CTRB1 levels supports research into exocrine pancreatic function, pancreatic inflammation, and metabolic disorders where chymotrypsinogen family members have been investigated as candidate biomarkers.
