The Assay Genie ELISA kit quantifies human CPS1, a mitochondrial enzyme that catalyzes the rate-limiting first step of the urea cycle, converting ammonia, bicarbonate, and ATP into carbamoyl phosphate in the liver. CPS1 expression is frequently studied in hepatocellular carcinoma research, where reduced levels correlate with tumor progression, and in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, where impaired ammonia detoxification contributes to hepatic metabolic dysfunction. Additional applications include pulmonary hypertension and cancer metabolism studies.
