This indirect biotin streptavidin-HRP ELISA from Assay Genie detects human IgM antibodies directed against Chlamydia pneumoniae, an intracellular bacterial pathogen most often associated with atypical community-acquired pneumonia, bronchitis, and pharyngitis, and investigated as a contributing factor in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Serological IgM measurement is the standard approach for identifying acute or very recent infection, since IgM typically rises within 1-2 weeks of symptom onset and declines over the following 2-3 months, distinguishing current illness from past exposure detected by IgG alone. The assay is run on a pre-coated microplate and uses a biotinylated anti-human-IgM secondary antibody with streptavidin-HRP conjugate, producing a measurable absorbance endpoint read on a standard plate reader. Reconstituted reagents and unused strips should be stored refrigerated; bring all components to room temperature before use, avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles of the standards, and aliquot working diluents before storage.
