Contactin-1 is a GPI-anchored membrane protein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily that functions as a cell adhesion molecule, mediating cell surface interactions during nervous system development. It contributes to the formation of paranodal axo-glial junctions in myelinated peripheral nerves through its association with CNTNAP1, participates in oligodendrocyte generation as a ligand of NOTCH1, and, through interaction with TNR, induces neuronal repulsion and inhibition of neurite outgrowth.

The assay reports a detection range of 0.156-10 ng/mL and a sensitivity of 0.056 ng/mL, with an intra-assay CV of 6.1% and inter-assay CV of 8.8%. Recovery averages 106% for serum (range 100-112%) and 108% for plasma (range 102-114%). Linearity has been characterised across 1:2 to 1:16 dilutions in serum (94-113%), EDTA plasma (105-125%) and heparin plasma (87-115%). Specificity is directed against natural and recombinant human Contactin-1.
