CR2 binds complement cleavage fragments C3d, iC3b, and C3dg, bridging innate complement activation and adaptive B cell immunity. The receptor is predominantly expressed on mature B lymphocytes and follicular dendritic cells, where it lowers the threshold for antigen-driven B cell activation and supports antigen retention within germinal centers.

Validated for human reactivity, this colorimetric assay supports research into complement-mediated immunology, autoimmune mechanisms such as systemic lupus erythematosus where B cell CR2 expression is altered, B cell lymphoma phenotyping, and the role of CR2 as the principal attachment receptor for Epstein-Barr virus on B cells.
