Description

From Assay Genie, this Sandwich ELISA kit is designed for the quantitative measurement of human Collagen alpha-1 (XVIII) chain (COL18A1), a protein also referred to as Endostatin. The assay is reactive with human samples and is intended for research use only.

According to the manufacturer's specifications, the kit has a detection range of 0.156–10 ng/mL and a sensitivity of 0.078 ng/mL. Reported precision values are an intra-assay CV of 3.6% and an inter-assay CV of 6.8%. Recovery has been characterised in serum (average 88%, range 82–94%) and plasma (average 90%, range 84–96%). Linearity has been evaluated across dilutions from 1:2 to 1:16 in serum, EDTA plasma, and heparin plasma. The kit is suitable for serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernatants, and other biological fluids, with specificity for natural and recombinant human Collagen alpha-1 (XVIII) chain. Storage is at -20°C with shipping at +4°C.

COL18A1 is a component of type XVIII collagen and is implicated in tissue development, wound healing, and angiogenesis. Endostatin, a C-terminal proteolytic fragment of COL18A1, is described as a potent inhibitor of endothelial cell proliferation and angiogenesis, potentially by binding to heparan sulfate proteoglycans involved in growth factor signalling. Defects in COL18A1 are associated with Knobloch syndrome type 1 (KNO1), an autosomal recessive disorder. The protein is localised to the secreted pathway, extracellular space, and extracellular matrix, and the gene maps to chromosomal region 21q22.3.
