As an acidic 48 kDa glycoprotein packaged in the dense-core secretory granules of neuroendocrine cells, Chromogranin A (CHGA) is co-released with catecholamines and peptide hormones upon exocytosis and serves as one of the most informative circulating biomarkers for neuroendocrine tumor burden, sympathoadrenal activity, and certain inflammatory states.
