The kit targets MUC18, also referred to as MCAM and CD146, a cell adhesion molecule whose dysregulation has been linked to cancer, inflammatory disorders, and cardiovascular diseases, making it a valuable biomarker for research applications.

Performance characteristics include a detection range of 0.625-40ng/mL and a sensitivity of 0.176ng/mL. Intra-assay precision is reported at 4.9% CV and inter-assay precision at 7.8% CV. Linearity across dilutions of 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16 shows ranges of 91-104% to 108-118% for serum, 92-102% to 92-101% for EDTA plasma, and 99-107% to 91-100% for heparin plasma. Sample recovery averages 96% for serum (range 90-102%) and 98% for plasma (range 92-104%). The kit is specific for natural and recombinant human Cell surface glycoprotein MUC18.

MCAM plays a role in cell adhesion and in cohesion of the endothelial monolayer at intercellular junctions in vascular tissue, and its expression may allow melanoma cells to interact with cellular elements of the vascular system.
