Caspase-1, also called interleukin-1β-converting enzyme (ICE), is a cysteine-aspartic protease that cleaves pro-IL-1β and pro-IL-18 into their mature secreted cytokines and triggers gasdermin D-mediated pyroptosis during inflammasome assembly.
