Description

A sandwich ELISA from Assay Genie designed for the quantitative measurement of the human Calpain-2 catalytic subunit (CAPN2) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids. The kit recognises natural and recombinant human CAPN2 and is intended for research use only, particularly within the neurosciences.

According to the manufacturer's specifications, the assay has a detection range of 0.156-10ng/mL and a sensitivity of 0.065ng/mL. Reported precision includes an intra-assay CV of 5.5% and an inter-assay CV of 9.8%. Linearity was demonstrated across dilutions from 1:2 to 1:16 in serum, EDTA plasma and heparin plasma, while spike-and-recovery averaged 96% (range 90-102%) for serum and 98% (range 92-104%) for plasma.

CAPN2 is a calcium-regulated, non-lysosomal thiol-protease that catalyses limited proteolysis of substrates involved in cytoskeletal remodelling and signal transduction. It is a key enzyme involved in cellular processes such as cell motility, signalling and apoptosis, and it forms a heterodimer with the small regulatory subunit CAPNS1. Dysregulation of the enzyme has been linked to cancer, muscular dystrophy and neurodegenerative disorders, supporting its relevance as a research target.
