The C4 Binding Protein beta chain (C4BPbeta) is a single-subunit component of the circulating C4b-binding protein complex and a regulator of the classical complement pathway. Unlike the more abundant C4BPalpha chain, C4BPbeta carries a unique binding site for protein S, coupling complement regulation to the coagulation cascade and influencing free protein S anticoagulant activity in circulation.
