Description

Assay Genie's Human Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) ELISA Kit is a sandwich-format immunoassay designed for the quantitative measurement of BDNF in human samples. The kit is validated for use with serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids, and is intended for research use only within the neurosciences research area. It is listed under the synonyms Abrineurin and BDNF and recognises natural and recombinant human Brain-derived neurotrophic factor.

Reported performance characteristics include a detection range of 0.156-10 ng/mL and a sensitivity of 0.07 ng/mL. Precision is reported as an intra-assay CV of 5.7% and an inter-assay CV of 7.9%. BDNF is a secreted neurotrophin that, during development, promotes the survival and differentiation of selected neuronal populations of the peripheral and central nervous systems. It also participates in axonal growth, pathfinding, and the modulation of dendritic growth and morphology, and acts as a major regulator of synaptic transmission and plasticity at adult synapses in many regions of the CNS, contributing to adaptive neuronal responses including long-term potentiation (LTP), long-term depression (LTD), short-term synaptic plasticity and homeostatic regulation of intrinsic neuronal excitability.

Linearity has been evaluated in serum (N=5), EDTA plasma (N=5) and heparin plasma (N=5) across multiple dilutions, with reported recovery averages of 100% for serum and 102% for plasma. The analyte is described as monomers and homodimers that bind to NTRK2/TRKB.
