Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) is a 32-amino acid cardiac hormone secreted by ventricular cardiomyocytes in response to ventricular pressure overload and volume expansion, and it is widely used as a biomarker in cardiovascular and heart failure research. This Assay Genie PharmaGenie kit quantitatively measures BNP in human cell culture supernatants and serum using a Competitive ELISA format configured for 96 assays.

BNP is proteolytically cleaved from its pro-hormone proBNP and signals through natriuretic peptide receptor-A to drive vasodilation, natriuresis, and inhibition of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone axis. Researchers studying hypertensive disease models, ischemic injury, and drug-induced cardiotoxicity routinely monitor circulating BNP as a read-out of ventricular wall stress.
