Description

From Assay Genie, this Sandwich ELISA Kit is designed for the precise and reliable detection of human beta-hexosaminidase subunit alpha (HexA) levels. It detects natural and recombinant human HEXA and is intended for use with serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates, and other biological fluids, with reactivity confirmed for human samples. The kit is grouped under the Neurosciences research area and is for research use only.

Beta-hexosaminidase subunit alpha is a lysosomal enzyme that participates in the degradation of GM2 gangliosides and other molecules containing terminal N-acetyl hexosamines in the brain and other tissues. Deficiencies in HEXA have been linked to lysosomal storage disorders such as Tay-Sachs disease (GM2-gangliosidosis type 1), an autosomal recessive condition. The protein exists in three forms: hexosaminidase A (a trimer of one subunit alpha and beta chains), hexosaminidase B (a tetramer of beta chains), and hexosaminidase S (a homodimer of two alpha subunits). Listed synonyms include Beta-N-acetylhexosaminidase subunit alpha, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase subunit alpha, and Hexosaminidase subunit A.

Reported performance characteristics include a detection range of 1.56-100 mIU/mL, a sensitivity of 0.78 mIU/mL, an intra-assay CV of 5.6%, and an inter-assay CV of 8.1%. Linearity has been evaluated in serum, EDTA plasma, and heparin plasma across serial dilutions, and recovery has been assessed for serum and plasma samples.
